"62 YEARS OF HONNILA FAMILY SERVICE"

"WELCOME BACK " TO OUR VALUED VIKING CUSTOMERS - APRIL 2009

Spring greetings to our Viking Boat Harbor customers - whew, how time flies, it seems like just yesterday I was working on our first edition of the “Viking Express”! We received many positive comments on the first edition so I guess it’s only natural we follow up on it. This year the Honnila’s are celebrating 62 years of continuous service to the Les Cheneaux area. Being in any business for 62 years is not easy, fortunately we have had the support of many 2nd and 3rd generation families. Being involved in Viking for so long has also provided me the opportunity to get to know a wonderful group of people, all of whom I consider my friends.

Once again, this year brings change to the Viking family - we will soon have the fourth generation Honnila family member at Viking - that’s right, Stacy and I will be having a child around the mid-June time frame. We opted to not find out if it’s going to be a boy or a girl - I guess time will tell. I can only imagine the look on some of your faces (and you know who you are) thinking back to when I was a little one running around the yard.

I look forward to working with our customers on the upcoming 2009 season, and it is coming soon. The only ice in front of Viking is still tied up in the docks, the channels are free and clear… well mostly. Government bay is still locked up with ice, as is Hessel Bay. I can only think that in the next couple of weeks all of the ice will be gone.

VIKING TIDBITS

In an ongoing effort to provide up to date services and amenities to our customers, Viking has made a few changes to our appearance, and we are also awaiting a go ahead on some additional docking applications. Some of the changes include an updated launch ramp - it’s amazing how ice can damage cement over the course of time, a facelift on our boathouse and a new entrance into our showroom. We have also applied for permits to install additional docking on the eastern side of our property - we should have an answer soon. We will also have our laundry facilities up and running.

Due to the economic state, we have kept most of our labor and service rates the same as last year.
The only rate increase is for our customers seeking trash services. We will be doing our best to try and help keep all costs down for our supportive customers.

Also of note, Mike McMaken of McMaken Carpentry has expanded his business to incorporate many other services some of you may want to take advantage of. His new expansion is called “Green Choice” and they are specializing in a refuse recycling service. Mike will have a boat (or truck) available to go to your location and pick up any materials you may wish to dispose of. Mike is also installing green energy solutions, available at www.upgreenenergy.net. Mike also offers an island delivery service which may be beneficial, as well.

For customers who may not wish to put their boats in the water this season, please take advantage of this time to perform any maintenance or updates you may wish your boats to have.
